« I PROMISE I’LL COME AND RESCUE YOU »

It’s the most beautiful declaration of love you can make to someone or something. It’s a promise that must be made, but can never be fulfilled. And that’s the beauty of it. It’s not actions that save, it’s promises. Love is about growing something in yourself that protects the other person from yourself. Trying to save someone from themselves is a beautiful promise.

Recovering existing images or working with everyday objects has always been my approach. Looking at an object and writing for it, scrutinizing its particularities, observing to exhaustion what intrinsically defines it and what we don’t notice at first glance.
Through this video work, I wanted to continue this research and transform it; to watch for signs of the discrepancy between what we see, what we are given to see, and what we think about it. (…)

Vimala Pons, a circus artist and actress, has a background in competitive sport, art history, cinema and music. She started studies in art history and cinema history at university, before joining the Cours Florent open class. Next she trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur of Paris, as well as at the Centre National des Arts du Cirque for a year.

Since 2013, Vimala Pons has been evolving in young independent cinema and auteur cinema, acting for New Wave directors as well as for a new generation, such a A. Peretjatko, B. Mandico, S. Betbeder, T. Salvador, C. Honoré, B. Jacquot, J. Rivete, A. Resnais, P. Garrel, B. Podalydes, P. Verhoeven, B. Kasmi, S. Demoustier, S. Mitré, L. Borleteau… among many others.

At the end of 2022, she played in Vincent doit mourir, a film by Stephan Castang. In 2024, she was also included in Baya Kasmi’s last film Mikado, Victor Rodenbach’s first film Le Beau Rôle and L’Attachement, a film directed by Carine Tardieu.

Since 2010, Vimala Pons and Tsirihaka Harrivel have written and imagined performative circus shows. After De Nos jours (Notes on the Circus) with Ivan Mosjoukine collective, both of them created GRANDE in 2017, a contemporary circus show that toured for 3 years, until March 2019. They recorded the soundtrack of this show, Victoire Chose, which was released on vinyl and digital, with Teenage Menopause and Murailles Music labels.

In November 2020, Vimala Pons carried out Mémoires de l’Homme Fente, a 52mn audio film, a kind of “short-length film without images” with the independent label Transcachette Tapes.

In January 2022, she created her first solo show, Le Périmètre de Denver. At the same time, she wrote a sound fiction: Eusapia Klane, an EP (vinyl and digital), released with WARRIORECORDS and Kythibong. Eusapia Klane is an audiobook whose instrumental part composes the music for the entire show Le Périmètre de Denver. Eusapia Klane is one of the main characters in Le Périmètre de Denver.

In February 2023, the first video clip directed by Vimala Pons, Feux Follets, for the musician Flavien Berger, was released with the label Pan European Recording.

After a series of sold-out performances of her solo show Le Périmètre de Denver at the Centre Pompidou in April 2023, Vimala Pons presented her first solo show at galerie anne barrault in 2024. She also collaborated with Nhu Xuan Hua on a series of new works that were presented for the Rencontres d’Arles 2024.

She will present her new show Honda Romance on the occasion of the Festival d’Automne in Paris this year.
